How did it come about?
Monterojo arises in April 2015 as a degree project, where its founders had the purpose of establishing a legally constituted company in Colombia. This required creating and manufacturing a product. It was so well received, that the 4 young people formally partnered and made MonteRojo a reality. They began to develop new flavors such as BBQ and habanero garlic. They created healthy sauces with no preservatives, no artificial flavorings, no sugar, no calories and no sodium.
As a marketing strategy they did several tastings of their sauces on nachos, and surprisingly the public found the sauces and the nachos very appealing. Seeing the need and audience, they began to create their own brand of nachos differentiated with the use of sea salt, giving it a more premium touch. Little by little they implemented more products such as potatoes, plantains and yuccas, always aimed at a healthy and gourmet market.

In Colombia they can be found in the most recognized supermarkets in the country such as Carulla, Exito, Euro, Jumbo, Olímpica, Colsubsidio and more… They are present in Australia, Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, Ecuador, Germany, Spain and soon Puerto Rico.
Elaboration process
- They start at the bottom of the production line and select the best supplies of potatoes, cassava, plantain and corn.
- They proceed to semi-peel the product, pass it through the automatic slicer with the exact size they have established for each product.
- The slices fall into trays with water where they rest for a while to eliminate excess starch. They are then left to dry for a period of time.
- The slices are then taken to the fryer in batches. After frying, they are drained into the baskets.
- A special centrifuge is used to avoid excess flour and grit.
- After centrifuging, the product goes to the seasoning table to be manually seasoned.
- It then goes to the automatic packaging machine, goes up to the multiheader and passes to the packaging roller, where the machine fills and seals the package.
- Finally, the product is dosed and ready to be packed in boxes.

MonteRojo and the environment
- We work with corrugated cardboard in 6-pack, 8-pack, and 12-pack multi-packs using biodegradable plastic with a much more environmentally friendly ink.
- Our sauces come in recyclable glass bottles, thus reducing the impact of plastic on the environment.
- Internally, we have a recycling area in our company. We also separate waste and recycle paper.
- We encourage our employees to collect for them the recycling that results from our company so that they can sell it, thus contributing to the care of the environment and at the same time benefiting monetarily.
